Glentoran v Crusaders

Fri, 18/04/2014 - 22:02

It's the final home fixture of the season as Glentoran welcome Crusaders to the Oval. It's the 4th meeting of the two sides in the Danske Bank Premiership with Glentoran still looking to register a win against the North Belfast outfit.

Crusaders had a very comfortable 3-nil victory when they visited the Oval in early September but the Glens responded well with a scoreless draw at Seaview in horrendous conditions just before Christmas. The Crues came out on top 2-1 in the final game before the split; Glentoran perhaps deserving a share of the spoils on the night.

Paul Heatly, who score both Crusaders goals in last month's fixture misses out on this game through suspension as does Chris Morrow. Glentoran's Niall Henderson is available again having sat out last week's defeat at Cliftonville.

For Glentoran supporters coming to the Oval there will be the oportunity to vote for your 'Player of the Season'. Once again the members of Castlereagh GSC will be organising the vote.

Who is in contention? Well skipper Elliott Morris has played most games in 2013-14 (44). Vice captain, Stephen McAlorum has played 40 (2 of those being as a substitute) whilst Marcus Kane was surely a contender prior to picking up his knee injury. We have seen the emergence of Jordan Stewart and Johnny Addis, the former being joint top goalscorer with David Scullion with 7.

Castlereagh GSC's annual 'Ulster Footballer of the Year' dinner will take place in the Marine Court on 31st May. The cost for a 4-course meal and entertainment is £25. If anyone wishes to attend please contact any member of Castlereagh GSC.

The final issue of the Glentoran Gazette will be on sale at the game. 32 pages packed with information and articles. Well worth £3.
