Glentoran face Ballymena United at the Oval on Saturday looking to build on last weekend’s very encouraging performance against Danske Bank Premiership leaders, Crusaders. Over the past few seasons the teams have met 10 times with Glentoran’s record showing 6 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats. One of those defeats came earlier this season and ironically the team produced their best 45 minutes of football of the season. The 1-nil lead the Glens had at the interval should have been so much more and in the second half they were made to pay for those squandered opportunities, eventually losing 4-1.

For Saturday’s encounter Glentoran will be without defender, Calum Birney who sits out the game due to a one match suspension. Ciaran Caldwell and Steven Gordon are back in training but will probably not be in contention for tomorrow’s game and Marcus Kane is still a few weeks away from rejoining the squad. Chris Lavery will be back though and forwards Nacho Novo and Stephen O’Flynn both completed over an hour each for the Seconds on Wednesday evening, novo scoring in the 2-1 defeat to Crusaders Reserves.

Both Willie Garrett and David Scullion remain on the long term injured list. Garrett is doing some bicycle exercises following his knee surgery and Scullion is also making progress and could be back in late February.

The Board of Directors at Glentoran Football Club would again request that all supporters travelling to the Oval by private car, consider the local residents when deciding where and how to park.

Thank you for your cooperation.
