Warrenpoint Town v Glentoran

Fri, 24/10/2014 - 22:17

Glentoran travel to Milltown Playing Fields tomorrow to face Warrenpoint Town. Having went down to both Crusaders and Coleraine in their past two Danske Bank Premiership fixtures, Eddie Patterson's side will be looking to bounce back and hopefully close the gap on some of the teams above them.

This will be the 5th league meeting between the sides. They met on three occasions last season with Glentoran winning the first two, 1-0 at Stangmore Park in October courtesy of a Marcus Kane goal, 3-0 at the Oval in early December (Stewart & Scullion (2)) and Warrenpoint Town winning 2-1 at the Oval in February 2014. Earlier this season Glentoran ran out 3-1 winners when the sides met at the Oval. Curtis Allen netted twice with Fra McCaffrey getting the other Glentoran goal (match highlights on BBC Sport NI HERE ).

Warrenpoint Town currently sit bottom of the Danske Bank Premiership with 8 points from their 13 games. Having suffered five straight defeats at the start of the season they finally got 3 points on the board with a 2-0 win over Dungannon Swifts. Their other victory came against Ballinamallard Utd. Glentoran will have to be at their best to get maximum points from tomorrow's game, the home side already have creditable draws against both Cliftonville and Portadown this season.

Glentoran have a couple of players missing for tomorrow's game. Willie Garrett, victim of that shocking challenge by Mark Miskimmin at Coleraine last Saturday, will be out for a couple of weeks. Fra McCaffrey also sits this one out as he recovers from a groin injury. Calum Birney makes a return from injury with Glentoran Seconds whilst Kym Nelson should be back in the first team squad following his slight thigh strain. Jay Magee should be in the starting line up following his return from injury last weekend.

On the goal scoring front we have 4 players sitting on 5 goals this season so far. McCaffrey won't be able to add to his tally tomorrow but Curtis Allen, David Scullion and Jordan Stewart will all have the opportunity to add to their totals.

Stats-wise: Elliott Morris could make his 550th game for Glentoran whilst both Johnny Addis and Jordan Stewart can move within 1 game of 50 first team appearances.
