Womens Team Gain New Sponsor!

Thu, 24/07/2014 - 01:18

The Glentoran Women’s team are delighted to announce their new sponsor, Provident Personal Credit. The sponsor was announced ahead of tonight’s game at The Oval against Ballymena Allstars which they won 1-0.  Glentoran.com speaks to Cheryl Lamont, managers of the women’s team and Provident Personal Credit’s Regional Manager Johnny McGuinness in the video below.

Glentoran Belfast United, has enjoyed considerable success over the last twelve months and their prominence has drawn the attention of the UK’s leading home collection lender, Provident Personal Credit, who have this week agreed to help sponsor the team’s  foray into Europe and their remaining League and Cup matches.

The sponsorship will help cover the costs of their European adventure and for the remainder of this season will see the Company’s brand feature on the team’s playing shirts and at The Oval, home of Glentoran FC, where Glentoran/BU  play their league and cup home games.

After a 2013/2014 season which saw an unbeaten campaign lead to the Concentrix Premier League title, the team have qualified for the UEFA Women’s Champions League preliminary round which takes place in August in Glasgow.  They are also through to the County Antrim FA Women's Cup Final against Linfield on 1st August and the IFA Women’s Cup semi final on the 29th of July against the same opponents. The team also currently lead the NIWFA Concentrix Premier League.

"When one of our local agents, Sharon Campbell, brought the Club’s appeal to our attention we were delighted to help them continue their pursuit of trophies and help raise the profile of Women’s football in Northern Ireland.  We wish them every success for the remainder of the season. ”

Johnny McGuinness, Regional Manager Northern Ireland, Provident Personal Credit

“Running a women’s sport team is an expensive business, particularly when you have to compete in European competitions. Women’s sport does not attract the same sponsorship as men’s sport therefore we are doubly delighted that Provident Personal Credit not only saw fit to invest in sport but more importantly for us in women’s football, hopefully others will follow their example.
