Glentoran 3-1 Carrick Rangers

Sat, 12/10/2019 - 20:58

Glentoran ended their recent losing streak with a 3-1 victory over Carrick Rangers at the Oval this afternoon. It was a much changed team from the one which lost narrowly to Coleraine on Tuesday evening and it was great to welcome Gavin Peers back into the heart of the defence alongside Patrick McClean who missed the midweek cup game due to injury. Navid Nasseri, scorer on his debut against the Bannsiders, made the starting XI today.

The now annual Charity game between the Glentoran Legends and Dundela Old Crocks XI’s took place on Sunday at Wilgar Park and what a highly entertaining game it proved to be.  Part of a fundraiser for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and Friends of the Cancer Centre (BCH) the game was played in excellent conditions, on a great pitch considering the heavy rain on Saturday.

Second Player of the Month award for Hrvoje

Wed, 09/10/2019 - 21:16

Hrvoje Plum has emulated Conor Pepper's achievement of last season by winning the supporter vote for the second month in a row in his first two months with the club, winning the Glentoran Player of The Month for September

In what was very much a two-horse race, Hrvoje won 36% of the vote, just two points ahead of Paddy McClean (also for the second consecutive month) who had an excellent month in which he scored his first Glentoran goal, the winner v Warrenpoint. Conor Pepper was third with 26%.

Coleraine 2-1 Glentoran

Wed, 09/10/2019 - 13:09

There were only 4 survivors from the eleven who started against Cliftonville last Friday night for this evening's Bet McLean League Cup tie at the Coleraine Showground - Pepper, Kane, Stewart and Gallagher. However, the youthful, much changed side put up a battling performance and were perhaps unlucky not to take the tie to extra time, especially considering they had to play over an hour with 10 men following the dismissal on 28 minutes of James McCarthy.

Match Preview: Coleraine v Glentoran

The two teams met at the Oval at the same stage of this tournament. We won that one on penalties, following a 3-3 draw with our goals coming from John Herron and Curtis Allen (2).

Glentoran 0-1 Cliftonville

Sat, 05/10/2019 - 00:16

A late Joe Gormley goal saw the Reds claim the points at the Oval against 10-man Glentoran but once again the home fans were left confused by a number of refereeing decisions!

10 man Glentoran, having conceded an 84th minute goal threw everything at Cliftonville in the dying minutes of the game, pinning the Reds back in their own half, winning corners and forcing Richard Brush to make several saves, one of them an outstanding stop from John Herron's header. But ultimately it was in vain and it was the visitors who went away with the points.
