Glentoran Women: Double triumph at awards night

Tue, 30/04/2024 - 20:59

It was a doubly great night for Glentoran Women at the 2024 Local Woman Sports Awards on Saturday night.

First the 2023 League and Cup Double winners – who went through the league season undefeated and won the Electric Ireland Cup for the fifth year in a row – was picked as Best Team of the Year (the award was selected from teams across all sports) and Head Coach Kim Turner won the award as Best Football Coach of the Year. Two awards that should be of great pride to the entire Glentoran family.

Kim spoke to www.glentoran.com about the collective and individual awards: “Winning Team of the Year really has topped of a successful season. The players deserve nothing less than to be recognised for the tremendous hard work, sacrifice, and dedication they put in all season, along with a growth mindset and openness to learn from start to finish. The players have high standards  and a winning mentality that has come from years of great culture. To go unbeaten in any sport at any level is an amazing achievement and it's great the team has been recognised for that alongside winning the league and cup double. As for my personal achievement, as it's great to be recognised , I couldn't do it without the people around me. I'm surrounded by a backroom team with a common goal who all work together and a great support network. I'm proud and thankful to be in the position I'm in, coaching and working with great people.”

Congratulations to Kim and all her players, coaches and support staff on these thoroughly deserved honours.
