A Christmas Message to the Glentoran Family

Fri, 22/12/2023 - 12:06

As we approach the Christmas holiday and in my first year as Chairman, I wanted to wish the Glentoran family compliments of the season.

It has been an up and down season for the men’s team but recent results and despite a lengthy injury list, give hope for a good end to the calendar year. We then go into 2024 with a cup final to look forward to and hopefully a good Irish Cup run. Earlier this year our Women’s team regained the league and retained the Irish Cup for the 5th consecutive year, qualifying for next seasons Champions League. In addition the boys and girls academy teams continue to perform at the highest level, with young prospects promising a bright future.

The work we carry out in the community via the Social Partnership is held as an example to all other clubs and recognised by the IFA as how clubs can make a real impact to those who need it most. 2023 marks the 10th year in which the Milk Bar team behind the Glentoran Christmas Appeal has worked tirelessly to provide meals and toys for local families in need and for the homeless across Belfast. They are a credit to Glentoran.

We are also continuing dialogue with government officials regarding the Sub Regional Stadia funding and working on all fronts to ensure that is delivered after so many years. The professional approach on the pitch needs to be matched off the pitch and we are continuing to look to drive this. In short there is a lot going on all across the club.

I want to take this opportunity to thank you, our supporters and all those who volunteer and contribute to ensure this club continues to move forward in the right direction.

I also appreciate however that this can be a difficult time of the year for so many. Many of the Glentoran family have lost loved ones at this time in previous years and Christmas will always bring back so many memories. Some will be spending Christmas looking at an empty chair for the first time, the thoughts of the Glentoran family are with you at this time.

So may I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and New Year and especially a happy Boxing Day! Let’s hope 2024 brings much longed for success for us all.
