Match Preview: Ballymacash Rangers v Glentoran

Thu, 01/02/2024 - 22:11

Friday 2nd February

Kick Off 7.45pm

Tomorrow evening we travel to Lisburn to face Ballymacash Rangers in the sixth round of the Clearer Water Irish Cup. This will be the first competitive meeting between the two sides.

Less than 2 years after their promotion into the NIFL structure, Ballymacash Rangers are preparing to host the biggest game in their history. Having defeated Mid Ulster League side Oxford Sunnyside 3-2 at Knockramer Park in the last round, manager Lee Forsythe will be hoping to mastermind a huge Irish Cup shock against the club he grew up supporting.

The ‘Cash can boast a wealth of top level experience within their ranks; former Ards goalkeeper Brian Neeson, ex Dungannon Swifts man Josh Cahoon, former Glentoran duo Carl McComb and Dylan Davidson, winger Owen McKeown and much travelled striker Benny Igiehon having all turned out in the IPL earlier in their careers.

Leaders Limavady are the only visiting side to win a league match at the Bluebell so far this campaign, with Rangers currently in 3rd place, 1 point outside the promotion playoff berth they secured last season.

Warren Feeney: “The players are going into this one in a great spirit after last week’s win at Seaview. We played very well and overcame the big test when the Crues equalised so late in the game. It was a big moment but Bobby deserved his goal and so did his teammates for their performance. They showed the character and mentality I’ve been asking for and were a credit to the badge. A quality late winner like that at a difficult ground is always great for the supporters too.

Its always difficult going into a cup tie as favourites, and tomorrow night is nio different, Ballymacash are having a good season and as a Glenman I know Lee Forsythe will have them charged up for the game. So we’re taking Ballymacash very seriously, as they deserve. But equally we’re a Premiership club with a great Irish Cup tradition and are determined to go as far as we possibly can this year.”
